Bhagwat Geeta Chapter 8 Verse 6 says
यं यं वापि स्मरन्भावं त्यजत्यन्ते कलेवरम् |
तं तमेवैति कौन्तेय सदा तद्भावभावित: || 6||
yaṁ yaṁ vāpi smaran bhāvaṁ tyajatyante kalevaram
taṁ tam evaiti kaunteya sadā tad-bhāva-bhāvitaḥ
Shri Krishna clearly states in this verse that whatever thoughts are predominant in a person’s mind at the time of his death will determine his/her’s next birth.
From the astrological context this refers to the state of the fourth house of the chart or the sukhasthana. The fourth house is twelfth from the fifth house of Sanchita Karma thus shows the loss of Sanchita Karma. One can only escape this material plane for good when one has exhausted all the Sanchita Karmas. The fourth house is seventh from the tenth house or the Karmasthana indicating the Kriyamana karmas.So the fourth house indirectly signifies the loss of Sanchit karmas and opposition of Kriyaman Karmas.
One can surmise that the disposition of the fourth house,fourth lord and the natural significator of the fourth house, Moon can indicate if the person is proceeding towards emancipation or further bondage in the material realm. In other words is the soul proceeding towards Sadgati or otherwise? For example for an Aries lagna chart Jupiter exalted in the 4th house and exalted Moon in the second house will definitely grant Sadgati to the said soul. The onward journey of the soul can be derived from the third house and the Drekkana chart which is a topic for another future post.
The last thoughts in a person’s mind prior to death is as per one’s inherent nature and indicated by the fourth house of the horoscope. It can however be altered to some extent by Divine blessings and spiritual practices subject to the individual horoscope.
